Light aircraft firms are looking to move into a former control tower on a now-disused Ryedale airfield.
Under proposals which
have been drawn up for the building at Wombleton Airfield, near
Pickering – which was a training base during the Second World War - the
tower would be turned into offices for its owners, Swift Aircraft Ltd.
It would house design,
sales and administration staff for its owners, Swift Aircraft Ltd, and
other connected firms, as well as spare parts for Kirkbymoorside-based
light-aircraft manufacturer Europa Aircraft. Swift bought the
70-year-old airfield, in Moorfields Lane, in July and has said it wants
to preserve the site by investing in its runways and hangars as well as
the control tower.
