Spanish Air Ambulance Citation - heart transplanted successfully in patient
The heart now transported from Porto to Asturias in the plane that has crashed
as it approached the airport of Santiago de Compostela has been
successfully implemented in a 54 year old male admitted to the Hospital
Universitario Central de Asturias (HUCA) in Oviedo.
And airport
health officials have reported that the plane arrived at the airport of
Asturias, located near Avilés, at 05.28 hours from Porto with the organ,
which was later transferred by ambulance to the HUCA for
transplantation.
A large team doctor was already waiting for this
heart transplant, which was compatible with a patient Spaniard,
intervention that began at about 06.00 hours.
After an operation
that lasted over three hours, the receiver was transferred to the ICU of
the hospital Asturias where, according to sources consulted by Efe, is
recovering from surgery, which can be considered a success.
The
air taxi in which the organ Asturias came off ten minutes after the
Asturias airport at 05.38 am, to the airport of Santiago de Compostela,
near which crashed an hour later.
The plane, with capacity for six
people, had landed for the first time in Asturias airport to 00.15
hours to collect HUCA medical staff that he would take care of the
removal of the heart in Portugal.
The use of aircraft to move
hearts for transplantation is used whenever the routes are longer than
two hours, according to medical sources, which conducts an annual
average of ten to twelve shipments of such.

Google Translation;
This
morning, when it began to dawn, the airport of Santiago de Compostela
awoke from a heavy fog but there was nothing to imagine the tragedy that
would occur later. A
small reactor medicalized returned to his base at Compostela from the
airport of Asturias as 6:38 am this morning lost radio contact with the
control tower when it had started its landing approach and descent to
Compostela airport.
The
plane crashed on the approach path of the Santiago airport for its
northern end very close to the motorway and at the Camino de Santiago
and his remains were located fuselage at 07:05 pm and confirmed the
tragedy and who died its two occupants. It was Alexander Well, 37 year-old from Barcelona and Daniel Fernandez, a 35-year-old from Bilbao. Both crew members were thrown from the aircraft after hitting several trees. It
was a Cessna executive jet company Airnor like the picture accompanying
the news and see that it was common in Compostela airport.
The
President of the Xunta de Galicia has stressed this morning that two
people died in this accident, "working to save lives of others" and has
offered his support to families. Now
sources of research work to clarify the events but everything points to
the dense fog as the main factor of the tragic outcome. Regional
Minister of Health herself, Ana Mato, said it "deeply regrets the
deaths of the two pilots" and thanked "his important work for all
professionals who regularly participate in the transfer of equipment
operating and organs for transplant"
The flight plan was Porto - Asturias - Santiago de Compostela, but unfortunately never completed the flight plan. The
plane crashed in a populated area and inaccessible forests in the
Camino de Santiago by the time you recorded the incident claimed more
victims, and no pilgrim was not yet at that stage. It
was a Cessna 500, registration EC-Cittation IBA Airnor Company
(Northwest Aircraft) who served on the National Transplant Organization.
Research
Sources are still studying the causes of the accident and that despite
the dense fog, experts say they have had to raise more of a factor to
the tragic outcome because those same hours there were no incidents in
the daily operations of airport.
