The government of Germany has notified the NTSB of an accident involving a REIMS F172 airplane that occurred on August 22, 2019. The NTSB has appointed a U.S. Accredited Representative to assist the government of Germany's investigation under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13.
All investigative information will be released by the government of Germany.
Die blaue Cessna 172 war auf dem Weg vom Flugplatz St. Johann in Tirol zum Salzburger Flughafen und verschwand am Donnerstag gegen 13.45 Uhr vom Radar der deutschen Flugsicherung. Die Wrackteile wurden Freitagvormittag in der Nähe des Gipfels des Bogenhorns bei Melleck in der Gemeinde Schneizlreuth (Bayern) entdeckt – in direkter Nähe zur Staatsgrenze des Salzburger Pinzgaues. Von den Rettungskräften wurde auch die Leiche des Piloten gefunden. Es soll sich um einen 51-jährigen Mann aus dem Landkreis Traunstein (Bayern) handeln.
