SALINAS, Calif- An Aptos man who jumped from Bixby Bridge with a parachute was convicted of threatning the CHP officer who told him not to jump.

Here is the news release from the Monterey County DA's office:

Monterey County District Attorney Dean Flippo announced that on September 28, 2011, Steven Jester, age 47 and a resident of Aptos, was convicted by a jury of threatening violence against a peace officer, a felony, driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and disobedience of a peace officer's lawful order.

On December 8, 2010, California Highway Patrol Officer Grasmuck encountered Jester standing on the cement railing of Bixby Bridge, located on Highway 1, South of Carmel. Jester refused to obey Officer Grasmuck's order not to jump with a parachute from the bridge. Grasmuck determined Jester had earlier driven to Bixby Bridge while under the influence of alcohol. Two baggies of marijuana were found in Jester's backpack, located in his vehicle parked next to the bridge. En route to the jail, Jester threatened Officer Grasmuck with physical harm if the officer arrested him.

Jester is scheduled for sentencing on November 2, 2011.
